Sex Swing and what is a sustainable, safe & natural lubricant?

Lubricant is used to make sex more pleasant. But also for inserting a tampon, a menstrual cup or a 'duck's mouth'. I would prefer a sustainable, safe and natural lubricant. So which lubricant is best then?

A natural lubricant

In fact, a woman's vaginal fluid is the only real natural lubricant. This secretion consists of mucus and fluid.A vagina is normally a bit wetter around ovulation and a bit drier around menstruation . Nothing crazy. Hormones therefore play a role. Sometimes a partner is a bit better and sometimes a bit less. So that also plays a role.Other causes where a vagina can be dry: pregnancy, menopause, certain medications, washing your vagina with soap (don't!), certain illnesses and stressA dry vagina can cause problems. Making love isn't so cool then .And complaints can arise, such as itching, irritation, pain and a sore or burning sensation. Using a lubricant can help with this.

When is a lubricant natural?

Lube makers call their lube "natural ," if it's made from plant-based or organic ingredients, is vegan , or environmentally friendly in some way.But there isn't really a hard definition.Apotheekonline puts it this way: 'We only speak of a natural lubricant when it consists of one hundred percent natural ingredients. That is the case with a natural biological lubricant when it consists of, for example: almond oil, coconut oil, shea butter, vitamin E and aloe vera.' That sounds great, but there are more important questions with a ( natural) lubricant , namely:

What is a safe lubricant for condom use?

  • And which lubricant does not affect our 18+ toys ?
  • What is hygienic packaging?
  • What about 'health'?
  • What are the safe and the harmful ingredients in lubricant?
  • What about lubricant and the vaginal (or anal) flora?
  • And what is possible in terms of sustainability?

Well, I squeeze my bottle empty, and dive in…….

A safe lubricant for my vagina: what to watch out for?

There are different types of lubricant.

  • Water Based Lubricants
  • Silicone based lubricants
  • Oil Based Lubricants

Of course, your personal preference plays a role. But which type of lubricant is the safest depends on the situation. Read this awesome blog post on Sex Tablet:Lovers for one night
What is not safe?
❌ An oil -based lubricant can damage the latex condom (and latex diaphragm!). Resulting in an STD or pregnancy. willewenite. That also applies to that organic, natural coconut oil ..
❌ A silicone-based lubricant may affect silicone sex toys sex swing from viva-awa.com/sex-swing(and a silicone diaphragm).

Silicone on silicone

Sometimes combining silicone sex toys + silicone lubricant is possible. Then make sure you buy the best quality silicone sex toy (100% medical grade silicone or better yet platinum silicone that is the least likely to tear or prone to silicone lubricant) and the best quality silicone lubricant (ingredient dimethicone ).However , you will still have to try it yourself . Test the silicone lubricant on a piece of your sex toy nipple clamps (the start that doesn't go into your body, for example). Or just to be on the safe side, choose water-based lubricant with your silicone sex toy.

What is a 'healthy' lubricant?

A healthy lubricant has no negative effects on our private parts .No messing with my vaginal skin barrier. Broken skin is an entrance for bacteria. In addition, the vagina has its own flora. When it gets disturbed, the area is also susceptible to bacteria, fungal infections, and other nuisances. So what should you pay attention to in a healthy lubricant?
✅ No drying ingredients (strong soaps, for example)
✅ No irritating or harmful substances
✅ Lubricant must match the acidity of the skin (the pH value)
But how do you 'read' that ingredient list?
In the ingredient list (INCI), the highest percentages of ingredients are listed first. If a negative ingredient (such as perfume) is high on the list, it is better to skip the product .I personally prefer a short ingredient list. Not all kinds of unnecessary junk.I would in any case avoid these substances in lubricants:
❌ Perfume can be irritating and in my opinion you don't need it in lubricant, so avoid it.
❌ Parabens (preservative) can also irritate and have a hormone disrupting effect, so avoid them.
❌ Flavorings and fragrances . I would avoid it myself.
❌ Cocamidopropyl betaine is a soapy substance, and not necessary in lubricant.
❌ Allergens . That which you are allergic to. Of course.
❌ Polyquaternary Compounds . May accelerate HIV, even more research is needed.
❌ Spermicide or anesthetic ingredients .

But what about all those ingredient names you come across?

TIP: Testesst has an interesting piece about ingredients in lubricants, find them here with explanation per ingredient.
You can also run the ingredients through EWG's Skin Deep database.pH (acidity) in lubricants and the vaginal and rectal flora We will then have to request the exact pH value of the product in an email. It is not always clear. The pH value is a measure of the acidity of an aqueous solution.  So it is only important with water-based lubricants.

  • The acidity of a healthy vagina is between 3.8 and 4.5
  • A vaginal lubricant may therefore have a maximum pH of 4.5
  • The acidity of the rectum is closer to neutral (pH 7)
  • An anal lubricant may be between pH 5.5 to 7.
  • A higher pH (i.e. less acid) at the vagina can lead to bacterial vaginosis.

✅ always check the pH value of the lubricant.
❌ so do not use anal lubricants for the vagina.

What is hygienic packaging?

I wouldn't do an open jar that you go into with your hands every time. What is?
✅ Pump
✅ squeeze bottle

Sustainability Lubricants

This one is for the manufacturers. Because there is certainly still a profit to be made with sustainability and lubricants
With regard to the durability of lubricant, you can pay attention to:

  • Ingredients of organic origin
  • Ingredients are biodegradable
  • No microplastics in the product
  • vegan product
  • Animal testing free
  • Recycled packaging
  • Sustainable shipping
  • Make your own lubricant

By the way, the real green sex hippie can now stand up. Making your own lubricant is also an option. Completely at your own risk of course.De Groene Vrouw has written about it – again so delicious in her own way.'Is something for you again', I hear my friends say in my head.disclaimer. Know what you are doing and have your ingredient knowledge in order. Storing homemade products and bacterial growth is certainly a thing.

Compare natural lubricants

can we finally move on to the practical lesson?Let's take a look.

1. Organic or natural water-based lubricant

Water -based lubricant basically consists of water and glycerin (glycerol and propylene glycerol) and possibly other ingredients. It must contain preservative against bacterial growth.
✅ Water-based lubricants are always safe with condoms .
✅ Water-based lubricant does not affect sex toys .
✅ Glides well, washes off easily.
✅ There are also water-based lubricants without glycerine .
❌ Water-based lubricant dries slightly faster than oil or silicone.
❌ Some women may suffer from a yeast infection , which is said to be due to the glycerin.

Conclusion: what is the best natural lubricant?

My preferred water -based natural lubricant is Medglide bio green because it has a short ingredient list. It is water, glycerol and aloe vera based. It is also organic and the acidity matches .If you want a natural water-based lubricant, without glycerine , I would definitely go for Sliquid – Organics Natural . Also a very nice product with aloe vera of organic origin, vitamin E and linseed. The product is vegan and the pH is correct too.In terms of 100% silicone base , I would go for Medical Lubricant Dl . It has only 2 silicone ingredients (the best kinds) and 0% other substances, such as preservative, glycerine, perfume etc.For silicone-based lubricant, which can also be used with condoms and toys , I would go for Sliquid Organics Silk . Organic ingredients, right pH and they claim it is safe with latex, rubber, plastic and platinum silicone sex toys.
